Juvia's Place July Palette Review

Well Juvia's Place July is over and I have mixed feelings about these palettes. Let me first say the shadow quality is OUTSTANDING and this review comes down to personal preference. I purchased three palettes from Juvia's Place: The Nubian, The Nubian 2, and The Masquerade Mini. I will post pictures then my thoughts and comments on the palettes.

Notes on swatches: unless otherwise stated I always lay down a primer (Milani this time), the first swatch is always a finger swatch, the second is always a brush swatch (Flat Shader for Matte shadows, MAC 242 for Shimmer shadows), any small third swatch is made with an old school foam eye shadow applicator (*read my notes on that at the end of the post).

The Nubian
Juvia's Place website states "four transition matte and eight shimmery pearl textured colors".

In the picture just above I swatched two of, what I consider "satin" shimmer shadows.
(I use Milani eye primer as my base and a MAC 242 for any shimmer shadow)
First Swatch: Finger
Second Swatch: Old School foam eyeshadow applicator *
Third Swatch: Dry MAC 242
Fourth Swatch: MAC 242 sprayed with MAC Fix+ before and after shadow

Here you can see just how "textured" some of them are

You can see above just how chunky the textured shadows are, I personally don't like these because of that. The fall out was INSANE (see the short video below)

As I said all of the shadows are wonderful quality and pigmentation. The best way for me to describe the shadow finish in these palettes is: matte, "satin" shimmer, and "textured" shimmer.
I enjoyed the matte and "satin" the most and find the "textured" shadows difficult to work with in regards to my hooded eyes, they transfer to my hood and accentuate the crepiness of my eyelids.  The mattes are not hard and chalky, they do have a slight amount of kick up but its not terrible and they blend wonderfully. The "satin" & "textured" shimmers are smooth and "creamy" to the touch but the "textured" ones are difficult for me to use with my hooded eyes, even with a glitter type primer. If I planned on using any of the "textured" shadows I must do my eyes first due to the amount of fall out. I am a creature of habit and find this to be a pain, so sue me.

I think The Nubian is my favorite of the three with The Masquerade Mini being a wonderful companion. I love the orangey/warm tone of all the shadows in these two, the colorful shades really are stunning and I don’t really have anything like it in my collection. Honestly my goal is to be able to work more colors like these into my looks with ease.
I personally could live with out The Nubian 2.
I had ordered The Saharan Palette and matching Saharan Blush Palette at the same time I ordered these three and there was mess up with Hautelook and I never got those two palettes (I did get a refund) and in retrospect I'm glad that I didn't get them, I'm happy with The Nubian and The Masquerade Mini. They helped get the hype of Juvia's Place out of my system with as little monetary damage as possible. HAHA

Would I repurchase? The Nubian…YES, The Masquerade Mini...Maybe, The Nubian 2...No. Not because they are in any way a bad product, because they are wonderful! It simply comes down to personal preference.

Notes on use of "Old School" foam eye shadow applicator.
I'm sure I am in the minority but these are wonderful for the application of any shimmer type shadow, especially for those who aren't interested in purchasing an extra product such as MAC Fix+ (or any setting spray) to "foil" the shadows. They pick up the product as a finger would but alternately releases the product much more readily than your finger. Also for those with long nails, using your finger can be difficult. Who cares what those snotty influencers say, give it a try you might be pleasantly surprised!
